According to Harry Potter: Love potions were potions that caused the drinker to become infatuated with the person who gave it to them. Love potions were considered to be powerful. Amortentia was the most powerful love potion in existence, and pearl dust was an ingredient found in all love potions. (There is also a common iridescent thread in my work: I was born in June a-la pearls.)

So how could one create a love potion at home? A simple potion you can make at home is honey infused with dried rose buds.

  • Fill a glass jar one-third with rose and the remaining two-thirds with honey.

  • Where possible, use local honey and organic, fair-trade plant material!

  • Make sure you say your intentions aloud!

Now the hero question: Do love potions truly exist?

Yes and not. It is impossible to replicate true love since it's an emotional, cognitive process that's based on experiences and memories.

When making this painting, I had just learned of true love (Hey Ben). Love, to me, is the closest thing to magic... and potions are rooted in magic...
